Common questions
I forgot my passphrase.
Open Settings → Account and sync, choose Forgot passphrase, and enter your email and your recovery key. You then set a new passphrase. Nothing is re-encrypted.
We cannot reset your passphrase for you. Your data is encrypted with keys only you hold, so without the passphrase or the recovery key nobody can open it.
What is the recovery key and where do I keep it?
When you create an account, Veiltask shows a recovery key: 12 groups of 3 characters. It is the only way back in if you forget your passphrase.
Write it down on paper and keep it somewhere safe. Avoid screenshots or notes apps on the same phone: if the phone is lost, the key goes with it.
I lost both my passphrase and my recovery key.
Then the data on the server cannot be opened, by you or by us. If a device is still signed in, your tasks are still on that device: export a backup from it (Settings → Export backup) before doing anything else.
How do I back up or move my data?
Settings → Export backup saves a JSON file wherever you choose. Import backup adds its lists and tasks to the app; items that already exist are replaced by the file's version.
The backup file is not encrypted. Keep it somewhere you trust and delete copies you no longer need.
Do I need an account?
No. Veiltask works fully on one device without an account. An account is only needed to sync between devices.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account and sync → Delete account. Your encrypted data is deleted from our server immediately; server backups expire after 30 days. The tasks on your device are kept unless you erase them.
